Mala Raj

Poem by Mala Raj
No Fuss, No Stress, After all it’s just your Tress!
A long lock of a woman’s hair, they say,
Gives her the confidence to face the day
But does it, I would challenge or even create a furore,
For hair is but an appendage, here today, gone tomorrow
So why not grow them well and tend them without haste
Enjoy the feel as they inch up from neck down till waist
As months go by, style it away in a braid or a bun,
Feel the sway, when let loose or the stretch when stacked up for fun
Let it grow, but not in vain
Learn to share and expect no gain
There are millions out there with no tress on their scalp
No mane or locks or curls or strands; just a smooth head that’s bald
With chemo and radiation engaging their days and nights
Should absence of hair create in their life a dent?
Think! Dear friends think! Of them, who’re not as fortunate as thee
And embrace the spirit of caring and sharing to spread some glee
Chop up a foot of your lovely long tress
Mail it across with rubber bands at both ends
Get set it will, soon in a wig,
To adorn the head of someone small or big
Miss it you may, but not for too long
For soon would they grow back with a bang
Enjoy till then, the trendy new looks
And think of that small smile on an unknown face somewhere
It’s simple, it’s nice, No fuss, No Stress
After all it’s just your Tress! – Mala Raj
